Mary Jo and I could use a break.
We're tired of watching our loved ones disintegrate.
Weary of wondering what the next thing will be.
The next prayer to place against misery.
And it's one step forward, two steps back,
This tall order, this small fact.
My will wants you to fix this now,
I always ask too much of God.
We've learned everything we need to know -
about radiation treatments, cancer, and chemo.
God bless the Internet and email, though,
we failed to download any miracles.
And it's one step forward, two steps back,
This tall order, this small fact.
My will wants to wave it's arms,
To set things right in spite of God.
You'll never find me standing up in church,
and proclaiming I understood a word.
All three sides of the Trinity,
equilateral triangles confuse me.
And it's one step forward, two steps back,
This tall order, this sad fact.
I want you to fix this now,
I always ask too much of…
In the churches, synagogues, Hindu temples, Ashrams,
The mausoleums and the mosques,
we all ask too much of….
And it's one step forward, two steps back,
This tall order, this small fact.
My will wants you to fix this now,
I always ask too much of God.
